Membership

Membership of NZASE brings:

• The New Zealand Science Teacher - the professional journal of the New Zealand Association of Science Educators. Three issues a year are produced and distributed free to members.
• SCICON - the biennial conference of the New Zealand Association of Science Educators. It is organised and hosted by regional science teachers' associations with NZASE support and provides a unique professional development experience for teachers of science at all levels in New Zealand. Discounts are available to individual NZASE members.
• NZASE newsletters - printed and distributed free to members four times a year.
• Representation on National Committees.
• Access to Ministry curriculum contracts.

NZASE is committed to:

• Providing information and advice to members on resources, teaching methods and curriculum.
• Promoting the development of effective links between members in primary, intermediate, and secondary schools, to enhance the quality of learning in science at all levels.
• Identifying the ongoing professional development needs of members and promoting the provision of relevant professional development opportunities for all members.
• Providing opportunities for members to interact with other members internationally through membership of ICASE, representation at overseas conferences, international Space Camps, Science and Technology Fairs, etc.
• Encouraging and promoting links with the wider science and technology community, obtaining support and financial assistance for existing programmes, and developing new initiatives to benefit science and technology education.
• Providing information to the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Research, Science and Technology and other government agencies and to the community at large on all aspects of science education through submissions and representation on committees.

Teacher and Student Awards

NZASE supports the Royal Society of New Zealand in its advocacy for awards for teachers and students. These include the NZ Science Mathematics and Technology Teacher Fellowships (www.rsnz.org) and the Talented School Student Travel Awards (www.rsnz.org) for school students selected to attend international science and technology events.
