Giving Earth a Chance: Asia-Pacific Environment Success Stories Competition
For World Environment Day, 5 June 2002:

World Environment Day (WED) will be celebrated on June 5 2002 and this year's theme is "Give Earth a Chance"

The United Nations Environment Programme's Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific is inviting entries into a painting competition designed to celebrate environmental success stories.

The competition is open to students between the ages of 6 and 16 years. All young people need to do is think of a success story from their community, village, city or country and paint it, then describe it in words. This should take the form of a painting and a sentence to answer the questions; "what, where, when, why and how".

Full details of the rules for the competition are attached.

A selection of best entries will be displayed at a World Environment Day exhibition in Bangkok.

There will be prizes for the top three entries and the prize for the first prize winner is sponsored to travel to Bangkok to receive the award. Roundtrip air tickets, hotel accommodation and allowance will be provided. The second and third prizes will be awarded cash prize of US$500 and US$300 respectively and certificates.

We would greatly appreciate your assistance in circulating information about this painting competition to schools and other people's networks in your country.

Entries should be sent directly to: donna.gardner@mfe.govt.nz to arrive by May 3rd 2002.
